On 25 March, Governor Liu Xiaoming met with a delegation led by Jack Perry, Chairman of The 48 Group, during the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2026. The meeting highlighted Hainan Free Trade Port’s growing role as a key hub for reform, opening-up, and international investment, with both sides expressing strong interest in advancing practical cooperation across finance, green energy, AI, and digital trade, as well as supporting Chinese enterprises’ global expansion.

Notably, both sides also explored opportunities for football collaboration, including youth training programmes and cultural exchange initiatives, recognising sport as a powerful channel to strengthen people-to-people ties and mutual understanding between the UK and China. Jack Perry reaffirmed The 48 Group’s commitment to deepening UK–China cooperation, particularly in strengthening financial connectivity between the City of London and Hainan, facilitating two-way investment, and promoting long-term, sustainable partnerships.
