The World Data Organisation (WDO) established in Beijing - CCTV News Feature

In featured interviews, Jack Perry, Chairman of the 48 Group, described the establishment of the World Data Organisation in Beijing as “an important moment” for global digital cooperation. As a Founding Council Member, the 48 Group joins more than 200 members from over 40 countries, reflecting a growing international consensus on the need for coordinated approaches to data governance.

Jack Perry noted that data is increasingly becoming a foundational pillar of the modern economy, supporting artificial intelligence, enabling system integration, and shaping new models of value creation. He emphasised that the World Data Organisation provides a platform to promote dialogue, develop shared standards, and strengthen trust across borders.

He also highlighted that effective governance will be essential to ensuring data can be utilised at scale while avoiding fragmentation. In this context, Beijing’s role as the organisation’s headquarters reflects China’s growing capabilities in digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and long-term strategic planning, as well as the importance of coordination between policy, industry, and innovation ecosystems.
