London, UK – From 14th to 21st April, The 48 Group has successfully organised its inaugural Young Icebreakers China Delegation, bringing together student union leaders from University of Oxford, Imperial College London, and many other top UK universities to engage with China’s academic, industrial, and cultural landscape.
The delegation aimed to strengthen UK–China mutual understanding among young leaders through a focused programme of industry visits, university engagements, and cultural exchange. It provided first-hand insight into China’s innovation ecosystem while facilitating high-level dialogue between student leaders on governance, representation, and the evolving role of student unions.
In parallel, the delegation highlighted the United Kingdom’s strengths in creative industries, cultural engagement, and governance frameworks, offering Chinese student leaders a deeper understanding of how UK student unions operate as platforms for representation, innovation, and international connectivity.
Key Itineraries
Welcome Reception and Forum for World Education (FWE)
Student Union Presidents from the delegation sat down with Peking University’s Student Union president for a roundtable Forum to discuss the role of student unions for student service and development on 14th April in Beijing.
Visit to Beijing Haidian AI Genesis Community
In the morning of 15thApril, delegates visited the Beijing AI Genesis Community, a AI-focused innovation hub located in the core of Beijing Haidian District where leading universities, research institutions, venture capitals and entrepreneurs interact.
Visit to Neotix Robotics
Delegates visited Neotix Robotics to observe the development of forefront embodied AI technology and full-stack capabilities spanning humanoid robot hardware, advanced motion control algorithms, and multimodal AI systems.
Visit to Pop Mart Theme Park
As a key part to promote UK-China future collaboration on creative, fashion, and consumer industries, delegations visited Pop Mart Theme Park and had in-depth conversation with head of Pop Mart’s IP and Development on the “IP + Experience + Consumption” business model.
Visit to Future Land Centre
Delegates visited the Beijing Chaoyang Future Land Centre to understand Beijing’s specialised industrial hub dedicated to the Web 3.0 ecosystem and how digital economy can provide increased productivity and efficiency through innovations across different sectors.
Visit to InSpace Robotics
The delegates toured the factory and research centre of InSpace Robotics, a leading solution provider in coffee robotics. It produces barista-quality coffee through efficient robotics solution.
Tour in Guizhou Province
In Guizhou Province, delegates explored the region’s cultural and eco-tourism landscape through visits to natural sites and national parks, alongside direct engagement with policymakers to gain insight into the planning behind some of its most advanced and sophisticated engineering projects.
The 48 Group views the Young Icebreakers Delegation programme as a strategic platform to support future-oriented UK–China engagement, with a focus on equipping students with global perspectives and building networks that extend beyond the delegation itself. This exchange explored practical pathways to enhance collaboration, including cultural programmes, cross-border internships, and student mobility initiatives.
The 48 Group remains committed to expand the Young Icebreakers programme as a cornerstone of its people-to-people engagement strategy, supporting sustained dialogue and cooperation between the United Kingdom and China at the student and institutional level.
