London, UK, 13/04/2026
The 48 Group today formally announces its participation as a Founding Council Member of the World Data Organisation (WDO), following its inauguration in Beijing. As part of a high-level international group comprising leading enterprises, universities, think tanks, international organisations, and financial institutions from over 40 countries, the 48 Group will contribute to shaping the development of global data cooperation and governance frameworks. This milestone reflects the 48 Group’s continued role in facilitating international engagement across emerging areas of economic and technological importance to boost growth for UK businesses and contribute to UK’s growth agenda. Jack Perry, Chairman of the 48 Group and Executive Chairman of LEC Robotics, noted that the WDO will play a critical role in “shaping global standards, building trust, and ensuring that data delivers shared benefits across the international system.”
The establishment of the WDO comes at a time when the global economy is undergoing a structural transformation, increasingly driven by data, artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital infrastructure. As data becomes a foundational resource for innovation, productivity, and cross-border economic activity, the need for coordinated approaches to data governance, interoperability, and secure exchange is becoming more pronounced. The WDO provides a platform through which stakeholders can advance dialogue, promote common standards, and support the responsible development of the global digital economy. The 48 Group considers the WDO to be an important mechanism for enabling trusted, rules-based cooperation in this rapidly evolving domain.
For UK businesses and institutions, engagement with the WDO presents a constructive opportunity to participate in the development of global data frameworks while strengthening international partnerships in technology and innovation. Participation may support UK stakeholders in accessing emerging areas of digital trade, contributing to discussions on governance and standards, and aligning with global developments in data-driven industries. The 48 Group recognises the value that UK companies, research institutions, and innovation-led enterprises can gain by engaging with the WDO as a platform for building practical cooperation, enhancing policy understanding, and supporting the development of a secure, inclusive, and sustainable global digital ecosystem.
The 48 Group is committed to encourage cooperation between British and Chinese businesses for the mutual benefit of growth for both countries.
